Who we are
A mostly beach handball club in St. Petersburg, Fl. We practice at St. Pete Beach, Redington Shores Beach, and Treasure Island.
What is Beach Handball?
Beach handball is a fast-paced, team sport played on sand—usually at the beach—similar to indoor handball but with a few key differences to fit the outdoor, sandy environment.
🏖️ The Basics:
Teams: 4 players on the court per team (3 field players + 1 goalie), with substitutes.
Court: A sand court that’s smaller than a traditional handball court (27m x 12m).
Ball: Smaller and less sticky than an indoor handball, designed for easy gripping with one hand.
🎯 Objective:
Score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team’s net. The team with the most points at the end wins.
🔄 Format:
Played in two sets. If each team wins one set, the game goes to a shootout—which is like a trick-shot contest where players often do spins or dives to score.
💥 Cool Stuff:
Stylish plays = extra points. A 360° spin shot or an alley-oop-style shot called “in flight” goal scores 2 points instead of 1.
It’s common to see flips, dives, and lots of flair—it’s part of the sport’s vibe.
Goalies can score and often do, especially with quick throws across the court (worth 2 points).
⚖️ Vibe:
Beach handball is super dynamic, fun, and a bit flashy. Think of it as a mix of strategy, athleticism, and creativity, all while running and diving on sand.
